James Doohan, World War II vet (and D-Day, Juno Beach survivor), beloved father of seven, creator of two languages, and famed for his archetype-creating role of miracle-working engineer Scotty on the television series Star Trek, passed away this morning. [wikipedia entry]

Before this thread goes, I'd just like to say that in the zeal to post breaking news, the previous poster could have done just a teensy-tiny little bit of research into posting some of the more amazing aspects of Mr. Doohan's life instead of the single-link obit post. Sheesh!
