I'll throw out a recommendation for Big Ruckus' Walkie Talkie Vertigo Man, a mashup of Steriogram's Walkie Talkie Man and U2's Vertigo, found via the Daily Source Code. It's one of the few mashups that transcended novelty and made its way into my music library.

Yeah, these are pure novelty, but that's ok. I never expect more from a mashup. They're still fun to have around every once in a while and this site had dozens I've never heard before.

I'm a huge fan of mashups, well-done ones that is. I wish the artists themselves would take the inspiration and radically change/mix genres occasionally just for fun. Holy crap, live preview is weirding me out.

So far my favorite is a short mashup of Missy Eliot vs Green Day, "Get Yo' Green On". It's not very long, but it just sounds so energetic and spunky. She really needs to quit rap and go into pseudo-punk.

Mashup of the Week podcast has lots more mashups (including the one I previously linked to) for those who want 'em. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Paradise City are two great tastes that taste great together.

Maybe it's because "Waiting Room" just rocks so incredibly hard that it's hard to screw up, but that Fugazi/Destiny's Child mashup is pretty f'in good.

I'm listening right now to the Pink vs. ELO one. I admire the cleverness of this, even if it is "just" a novelty genre. I'm handicapped in choosing which ones to listen to because my interest in pop music began to wane about the time Paul Simon released his Graceland album.

I've had about 50/50 success with mashuptown. They had a Kelley Clarkson mashup I was going to alert Matt about, but then I listened to it and, well, blargh. You might also find something you like at DJ Reset's site. Thanks for all the links, folks!

My favorite mashup has to be the Kasabian-Whitney Houston one that was on Stereogum last year. That said, I lurve the Kleptones. I think their stuff does transcend novelty.

Someone really needs to try the sermon that opens Prince's "Let's Go Crazy," mashed with Strauss's "Also Sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30: Sunrise"--the prologue heard in "2001" and Elvis shows, etc. I could do this on an old cassette player that could play two tapes simultaneously, something it wasn't supposed to do. It's short, but mighty.

If you can find it, a great mashup CD is Parallel Universe vol.1 and 2 by DJ broken window. Its just two turntables and two odd tracks that merge together perfectly. The analog mashup in its simplest form.

I tried to talk them through using email and needed to them "press the red button with the "X" on it on the top right side of the window". They replied with "hold on let me get my flashlight". skoosh: Glad you linked to GHP. Vidler's the master. His mashup of Christina Aguilera with The Velvet Underground ["Girl Wants (to Say Goodbye to) Rock & Roll"] is unbelievably great. (#2 on my list would be Freelance Hellraiser's famous mash of Destiny's Child's "Bootylicious" with Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit.")
