The weblogging thing is over. If anybody's still weblogging because it's "cool", bad news: Salon is now rolling their own.

But half of the links on Metafilter go to Salon, how could they not be cool ;)?

I'm more distressed that they've stolen eBoy's style for the header...

Didn't Janelle Brown used to do a technology weblog/semi-daily links thing on Salon? For that matter, does she still? This seems like old wine in a new bottle. Perhaps The Inbox just got renamed in the redesign.

Major media have been weblogging for ages -- viz. <A HREF="http://www.guardianunlimited.co.uk/weblog"TARGET="_NEW">the Guardian and the <A HREF="http://www.theage.com.au/weblog/"TARGET="_NEW">the Age for starters. The beginning of the end or the end of the beginning?

Brad, that was Jenn Shreve's alt: media column, which seems to have run from 4Q 99 to 2Q 00 and then to have disappeared, presumably in the Great Purge of Unclicked-on Departments, around that time. No sign of Shreve since then either.

Or maybe you're thinking of 21st Log which goes back to 98/99 and was done by Janelle Brown (who is still around writing feature articles for Technology)?

Mercury Center has been publishing Good Morning Silicon Valley since at least the mid-90's. Nothing new here.
