Cool ad for dike bilge water! Drink up! Another fine product from Engulf & Devour. Dutch Import != Good Beer.

Just a warning I get a "forceDownload.php" on Safari that doesn't allow me to watch it in browser.

Cool three hour download on broadband! Enthusiastic agreement that Heineken sucks ass! Obligatory worst FPP ever hyperbole (my first)!

But seriously, fuck.

Yeah, Pepsi Green, I wish.
posted by strangeleftydoublethink at 11:08 PM on July 28, 2005

Shouldn't this kind of FPP be preceded by "And now we will have a short break for a message from our sponsors. We will be back with the "Best of the Web" in a moment"?

Pepsi Green it is.

jonson, you know how much they hate ads around here. I dug it. I dug that Chalet's video you posted too. Wanna know of a place where we love ads? You'd be more than welcome to come and post there. *nudge nudge*? ;)

adfilter???
posted by jonson at 12:35 AM on July 29, 2005

adfilter - heh - maybe I should get that domain....Nah, see my userpage but I know you already did.

The song in this ad by the way, is Teddybears ft. Mad Cobra - Cobrastyle in some sort of remix. Ad-dub maybe? ;)

It's a little over the top. Here's a much better ad (.mov) featuring authentic popping and locking (the dancing is more subtle, but the spot itself is brilliant). One of the dancers is David Elsewhere, who gained some internet fame as the third dancer in this short video (embedded wmv).

Sye, lurve the golf gti ad. (wasn't that posted here in the blue as well?).
As long as we are one the topic of beer ads, we must mention the current really BIG ad from down under. heee-larious.
posted by dabitch at 1:36 AM on July 29, 2005

rafter, Elsewhere is in the Heineken ad too.
posted by shoos at 3:19 AM on July 29, 2005

meh. A 1/2 hour d/l on adsl. oy.
Thanks for the big ad dabitch. So that's what I'm missing not watching tv heh.
posted by peacay at 3:20 AM on July 29, 2005

Actually, I think Elsewhere did all of the dancing in the ad. CG probably just put the other actors' faces on him.
posted by shoos at 4:07 AM on July 29, 2005

To add injury to the insults, you could at least have spelled Heineken correctly.

While I wait the 54 (and climbing) minutes Safari estimates are remaining in this download, I'd just like to thank jonson for this post. There's a small contingent here who appreciate a good ad... or at least can discuss advertising without resorting to rants against the man. If nothing else, it led me to dabitch's excellent link.

Safari reporting 1 hour, 12 minutes remaining now... sigh
posted by GhostintheMachine at 5:39 AM on July 29, 2005

Brutal - sorry for the download times; when I first ran across it (before it had been posted here, obviously), it took me 3 minutes to download. As for those who don't like ads, my sincerest apologies. Please form a queue, all monies collected for the viewing of this post will be promptly reimbursed.

If you're downloading that slow heineken ad, don't click on the BIG ad. It crashed the browser in my case... starting d/l all over again... pssshhhh
posted by Lectrick at 9:09 AM on July 29, 2005

oh, the browser was Safari. d'oh
posted by Lectrick at 9:09 AM on July 29, 2005

ok it worked the second time, when I didn't load it in a tab. so I guess, don't load it in a Safari tab or it will Boom. Probably because it tries to take over your screen...

It was a funny ad, in the end ;)

If I walked inside a bar and saw all those people doing all that kind of wiggling around shit, I would run out of there immediately.

If it had spread outside, like it did in this video, I would leave whatever damn country that was RIGHT AWAY.

It's like some kind of pop-locking zombie movie. After finally seeing the "Dawn of the Dead" remake last week, I am horrified. This video is creepy as hell.

Thanks for ruining my whole day, Jonson. I don't even want to look at my co-workers right now. I'm afraid that everyone's going to turn into hip-hop epileptics. I just want to disappear.

Yeah that vividas "player" for the BIG ad acts a little quirky it seems, I can't get it to load in my Firefox for example. Sorry about that, should have warned y'all.
posted by dabitch at 9:46 AM on July 29, 2005

That BIG ad, by the way, was the coolest thing I've ever seen. I'm glad I posted this thread solely because it led dabitch to post the much cooler BigAd link inside. I had no trouble with the BigAd player, but two others that I sent it to had security issues with the installer...

I'll have to check these out when I'm not on the boss's dime. I'm in the final few weeks of an "intro to advertising" night class while I contemplate a mid-life career change, and good, quality ads are downright inspiring.

So thanks to jonson, and dabitch as well...I'll be busy checking out your site for some time, I think...

Ugh. I go out of my way to avoid this ad in movie theatres and now it's on Mefi? Ick. Worse, it's a ripoff of a Japanese music video from about 8 months ago.
posted by dobbs at 11:12 AM on July 29, 2005

I was so disappointed that the punchline to the ad was not the taxi that they got into dancing like the Citroen.
posted by dhartung at 11:23 AM on July 29, 2005

dhartung, I was hoping they'd get into this citroen teeheeehee. disclosure: self link, QT movie, same film can also be downloaded straight from here as .wmv file instead.

Dobbs which music video is it ripping? Personally, I just don't get that popping ear-thing going on.
posted by dabitch at 11:36 AM on July 29, 2005

dabitch, I believe Dobbs is referring to "Late at Night" (.mov) by Futureshock.
posted by numlok at 2:53 PM on July 29, 2005

BTW: Both "Late at Night" and the VW Golf ad "Singing in the rain" were done by this production company: NEO
posted by numlok at 2:56 PM on July 29, 2005

That's definitely David "Elsewhere" that starts off the dancing. He's the same kid from the Golf/Jetta commercial singing in the rain.
posted by mathowie at 3:42 PM on July 29, 2005

oh, by the way, here's a mirror of it on my server, if the original one is still slow. It's a pretty cool commercial.
