Coso Rock Art: "The Coso Rock Art District, a National Historic Landmark deep in the U.S. Navy's testing station at China Lake, contains one of America's most impressive petroglyphic and archeological complexes . . . . Coso rock art has become famous for its stylized representational symbolic system, a system that has intrigued—and baffled—archeologists and lay observers for decades." A guide to the rock art types here. See also A Guided Tour of Coso Rock Art and the Coso Gallery.

A great looking site.

When I have the time, I want to really explore it.

Wish somebody would start a site that would provide a detailed history of production, costs, etc. for the automobile and motorcycle industries.

Too much opinion on the web, too little meat.

This site is a welcome change.

Shame it's all a hoax, eh?

fff, why do you say that? There was a Coso artifact that appears to be a hoax, but that is separate issue from the petroglyphs in the Coso range. Is that what you are referencing, by any chance?

There is some dispute about the age of the petroglyphs but I haven't found anything disputing their authenticity.

Good post, LarryC - thanks!

Just trying to stir up unwarranted controversy, mme. J. It was less amusing than I thought it might be.

Too bad this place is off limits, and the permissions take some time to get, cause there is an awesome hot springs up there.
Darwin California is nearby and is a wierd place to visit. click on the satellite view.

Wow. Thanks for the amazing link LarryC. The entire National Park Service archaeology site is great--lots to learn there, more than just about Coso.
