Wikimania begins on wednesday (in Germany). Unless you're there, you won't be able to hear the presentations on getting wikipedia into africa, a timeline with all of human history on it, or the intersect of art and science, but the media competion nominees are online. Check out the animations.

A timeline of all human history! I love it! Timelines differ in scope along at least three dimensions. Space from local history to global developments Time from detailed account of one major event to a grand classification of large epochs Topic from one aspect of human life to all human endeavour Between wiki and hyperlinking in general, old fashioned books are starting to seem more and more inadequate. Except that we still like the feel of paper in our hands, I suppose. I wonder how long it will be before we stop printing books all together.

Oh my, how I love wikipedia. The grand unified timeline of human history will be oh so great. And thanks for the animations link as well. I wish I could be there for the conference, especially for the talk on getting wikipedia into Africa. Post of the day Tlogmer, really.

Wikimedia overwhelms me. I'd only begun to digest Wikipedia when I found out about Wikibooks, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, Wikinews... I don't know how there are enough people to edit all of this stuff, honestly. But I love it.

Ooh, I just thought of this museum based on this. The rooms are arranged like a grid. Go north-south to pass through time, east-west to travel geographically, and up-down to change subject matter.

I had this exact grand history timeline idea a couple months ago. Damn laziness! As far as user interface ideas for the timeline, making it scrollable and zoomable (ala google maps) would be quite fun.
