August is National Sandwich Month and some people are dead serious about their love for the sandwich, keeping track of every one eaten this month (and for 2004 and 2003). Clearly, we could all be doing much more to celebrate and support the sandwich.

August is also: American Artists Appreciation Month Architecture Month Family Fun Month Foot Health Month National Back-to-School Month National Canning Month National Catfish month National Golf Month National Hypnosis Awareness Month National Inventors' Month National Parks Month I'm sure I've missed at least a dozen others. In addition, nearly every week and day of the month has been designated as National Something or Other day. Today, August 5th is National Mustard Day. Your government at work... imagine the floor debate over these controversial pieces of legislation.

You know the only people sadder than the sandwich people are "the poo people". You know the poo people? Adults who sleep alone every night, but every day you see them in the park with their little three pound dogs. If it were a fish you'd throw it back, but they love it and they walk it. August is also: I say we celebrate by having an artist paint us designing a building, with our families, while having a back-to-school pedicure, all while eating a canned catfish sandwich with mustard (followed by a needed tic-tak for fresh breath). Afterwards we can invent a device that hypnotically allows you to play better golf in the park.

Five points: 1) I'm often surprised by egg salad sandwiches -- they are always better than I remember them. 2) I am a sucker for a large Schlotzki's Deli reuben sandwich -- even though it's a chain. 3) Speaking of chains, for some reason I don't like it when McDonald's or Burger King call their sundry burgers "sandwiches," as in "would you like the value meal or just the sandwich?" 4) Cucumber slices MAKE a chicken salad sandwich. 5) Tuna salad requires ONLY tuna and mayonnaise (and perhaps some black pepper). I think it's the fewest components required to constitute a "salad".
