This rules plep, the context provided with the prints makes it so much better. I spent a year studying Meiji era Japan back in high school. I miss hama7 for these kinds of links. posted by sciurus at 4:38 AM on August 12, 2005

Absolutely awesome, plep. I saw some of these at the weekend market of Hanazono Shrine in Shinjuku, and have been looking for more information about them since. Meiji restoration stuff is always a facinating look at an extreme cultural upheaval and its echos still ring loud in Japanese society today.
Side note...yeah, I miss hama7's extreme contrasts in taste too. posted by rawfishy at 6:29 AM on August 12, 2005
These are beautifully done, really amazing. I will make a point to get back here and check them out more when I don't have a boss trying to get me to do some work. posted by fenriq at 10:27 AM on August 12, 2005
