Matt Drudge Making S**t Up? Maybe Matt just wanted a piece of that heavy Courtney Love web traffic, seeing that she's been tearing up the pop culture celebrity meltdown headlines again. Or maybe he had more nefarious motives. But the fact of the matter is America's most hated yellow journalist (after Bill O'Reilly) was caught red-handed fabricating a story about Courtney Love's supposed Mulholland Drive suicide this morning.

Wow, right-wing hacks make bullshit and feed it to the press? You don't say. Shocking.

Wouldn't that make him America's second most hated yellow journalist, then?

What a tool. Drudge and RodgerJ and Courtney Love for that matter.

What was that about Courtney Love web traffic that Drudge wanted? Nothing you had an interest in, was it, RodgerJ? Nah, you just happened to accidentally self-link?

Oops. Bye now.

Sorry, I'm not a traffic whore and I didn't mean to post the URL twice. Gimme a break. I'm a professional journalist and I wanted to get the story out while it's still breaking. I'll adhere to whatever protocol is on the next round; in fact, I'm reading about that just now.

Wasn't "eat shit" a bit much?

Really.

Courtney's refined and ladylike.

I'm certainly no Courtney Love fan, Jikel, but I hate Drudge's yellow journalism tactics even more.

I believe the correct term for this situation is GYOFB, RodgerJ.

You didn't even post a link to the specific post (http://8763wonderland.com/?p=109), just to your homepage. Were you planning on dedicating your site to this story from now on?

Sorry to say, RodgerJ, but you should have read the protocol for this round. There won't be a next round.

Rodger, the first rule of MetaFilter is don't linkwhore on the home page. You linked whored on the homepage, so yeah, eat shit and bye.

Noooooooooo! That would be a fate worse than death.

It's a cute anime pic, but which might be considered by some very uptight people as NSFW.

I was going to say don't be so hard on RodgerJ, but when I got to the part where I typed "hard on" I started laughing so hard that I shot gin and tonic out of my nose, and that shit burns when it's coming out through sensitive nasal tissue, so I was flailing madly around for a KleenexTM, a towel, anything I could blow my nose into to assuage the burning and then I knocked over the rest of my gin and tonic, so now I'm not only in a hideous amount af nasal pain but I'm also minus one gin and tonic, so I've decided to join the majority in wishing RodgerJ a nice bannination.

Don't be mad @ RodgerJ for this, after all he IS a "situational ethicist" according to his bio. Perhaps this was a situation where he decided to look the other way on those pesky community norms.

Damn. I thought the first rule of MetaFilter was we didn't talk about MetaFilter? Darn it, I've been in the wrong place for years... :-)

And, adding fuel to the fire, the link is NSFW (scroll down a bit for Courtney's boobs). Fuck you, you fucker.

Single-link drudgefilter self-link unmarked NSFW... Shit; this post might deserve some kind of award.

I have to admit, those (Love's boobs) looked a lot better than I had surmised.

Okay, that was a good one. I confess to that error as well.
posted by RodgerJ at 7:19 PM on August 12, 2005

Well, rodgerj, old friend, it's been good. Not real good, per se, but good. And you know, when I say "good" I don't mean in a fine wine kind of way, but more of a "that was surprisingly good for a Rob Schneider movie" kind of way. Not good in a long, drawn out, y2karl kind of way, but more good in a "well, it's good you won't be doing that again anytime soon" sort of way.

Actually now that I think about it, pretty much not good.

But if you hurry over to MetaTalk, you could post a "That's it! I'm leaving this terrible horrible chatroom with all your pedantic silly rules! And NOBODY'S going to talk me out of it!" note. You're going, so you might as well go in style.

THAT would be good. And you could even laugh along with us at the results.

Hmmmm....

While self-linking is bad (really bad, yeah), I guess I'm a bit confused about all the hate directed at RodgerJ, especially if he's so new. I dunno, maybe I just give people the benefit of the doubt too much....
posted by JHarris at 7:28 PM on August 12, 2005

J, I realize my mistake. I apologized for it. And I agree that the hostility level was a tad over the top but, hey, look, it's the internet. It's not the real world.

Darn. sdrawkcab beat me to it. (I finally get 10 minutes to read *and* post and miss my chance at a somewhat humorous one).

Potential follow-up, tho: I guess this little faux pax might make RogerJ the most hated professional journalist (after Matt Drudge and Mr Bill) - at least on MeFi for the short time he has left here.
