I, for one, welcome... oh, never mind. It's a robot cat.

"He likes to turn around" - Uhm, it looks like the poor thing just doesn't know (yet) how to go straight... ("Meow!")
My cat would kill me if I made her a robot platform, but then again, she has functioning kitty legs.

I, for one, don't think it's real.

Was everything but the head on this cat damaged?

Oh yeah, it's definitely not real -- robotcombat.com? I just thought it was amuuuusing.

Am I the only person who was frighted by the motorized box with a living cat head grafted on it?

At the very least, this post is the first use of that joke that wasn't completely lame in the last year.

Despite my cat's perfectly good legs, I have a sudden urge to attach her to a remote-controlled wheeled platform. It would be hilarious.

Robot cat? (mp3)

I think it's real. Rather sad, though, that the cat can only go in circles.

I know I'm not the only one who'd love to see those motors revved up and stick the robocat on a skateboard half-pipe?

According to the RobotCombat website, this was originally shown on Comedy Central. (It's on a list right above the classic "Old Glory Robot Insurance" bit from SNL.)
posted by brain_drain at 11:34 AM on August 14, 2005

Yep, it was originally shown on Comedy Central - it's a clip from Battlebots (as the logo in the bottom corner of the video said). Carlo Bertocchini was a contestant, and this clip was provided as background info on his robot-building chops.

And by the way, it's not just a living cat head grafted onto a box (duh) - the rest of the cat's body is inside the box. It's only the cat's back legs that don't work.

My perfectly functioning cats would dig that if it weren't quite so enclosed and if there were a litter box inside. Then they wouldn't have to move at all.

It's more of a cyborg cat than a robot cat, isn't it?

It's just a motorized cat wheelchair, folks.

It's now more machine than cat, twisted and evil.

He'll never know! Bwa ha ha!

But, on a cool midwestern summer morning, can the robot cat scratch on the screen door to bet let in, purr contentedly as I scratch his neck with one hand (reading the newspaper with the other), and then deposit a big steaming heap o' cat vomit on the carpet next to me? Cause my cat did all of that just this morning.
posted by LarryC at 7:09 PM on August 14, 2005

No. But if that's a Roomba robo-cat's strapped to, he could clean up the vomit from other cats. Now that's a useful pet!
