Andre Kertesz was a master of photography with a career spanning 70 years. His images manage the seemingly impossible of being iconic images of the ordinary and mundane. Exhibition currently at Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

I'd seen the exhibition in DC and was pleasantly surprised to see it at the LACMA last week. I had a quick glance and they where just as great as I remembered. This one is my favorite; I can't help thinking of birds when I see it.

There's also a great but very general surrealism show at the underrated Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, CA which features a number of excellent Kertesz prints; it runs for a few more weeks, I think.

incidentally, any MeFites who are planning on coming to LACMA to see this before it closes on Sept. 5 should feel free to drop me an email if you'd like... I worked on the show, and am always up to meet folks for a cup of coffee here at the museum if time permits!

Kertesz's early contact prints are tiny, which makes a perfect match for the similarly tiny phaidon book of his work.
