One of the (very few) good things about Cablevision is Metro Traffic and Weather. It's just a two minute loop of just that - local weather and traffic, even if it does have local ads between the loops. Weather Channel has become Weather Porn.

Ya know, some people watched The Weather Channel to, you know, get a weather report and move on with their lives.

Of course that was before everybody and their pets had access to the internet.

What an ugly, non-functional logo.

What's the point of throwing out all that brand recognition they've gained over the years to come up with something that make me think of Nationwide insurance?

I weep for my profession (television graphic design).

Sigh. Mission Creep keeps ruining every channel I watch. The Travel Channel tonight is showing something about concept cars, repeatedly stating that you'll never be able to drive hardly any of these. What does that have to do with travel? TVLand is debuting a game show. The International Film Channel already has one. Heck, Court TV already has one! American Movie Classics went from showing "Badlands" to "Robocop." The Learning Channel has become "TLC," effectively a reality show network. And when can you actually see music videos on MTV or VH1 these days? Even MTV2 and VH1 Classic are heading in that direction. And don't even get me started on what happened to VH1 Mega Hits!

Damn, but that signifier/signified slippage drives me crazy sometimes!

I'm sorry to hear this. Back in the 80's, I loved the Weather Channel. I actually learned how to look at a weather map and forecast for myself, thanks to them.

I dimly remember they had gotten far less instructional in the late 90's. Part of that interval I spent in southern California, where watching weather forecasts was just plain silly most of the time.

Hey, now.

Robocop is an American movie classic.

Civil_Disobedient: okay, then substitute "Halloween III" instead. Does that work? (To be honest, when they did that, I was grateful since I hadn't ever seen that one.) But still, it's the principle of the thing, dangit!

Ha... yeah, I'm with you. And I still haven't seen H3, but then, I don't have cable. You don't have to fret about mission creep when you d/l all your movies and television shows.
