Is it just me, or is the logic behind this a bit incomprehensible? It's a charity event, that's a parody of charity events, and where does Halloween come in?

Boy, that's half-assed. They can't even consistently use the ironic apostrophe in "Hallowe'en" throughout the confusing announcement copy.

Slightly funnier than crib death.

Good satire is at least well written. This just left me thinking, Bwah?

Huh. I liked the song. But I really like that Unicorns album too, so ... ymmv.

Vice the biggest hit or miss corporation in the world. Even though the premise is lame it feels like you're missing out on a cool party and totally not in on the joke. Damn them, how do they manage to corner the cool market so effectively.

It's to raise money for UNICEF you scrooges.

Satire doesn't need to be funny; the song is ironic by declaring our need for help from the third world instead of the other way around. What's causing so many of our problems here? Fear. And what's more scary than Halowe'en? In an absurd way, nothing.

They're imploring the rest of the world to help us on Halowe'en when the purpose of the song is to get us to help them by donating to UNICEF. I don't think irony is hackneyed in benefit songs quite yet. They seem overrun with self-congratulatory earnestness.

Seems straightforward enough, though not obvious to me. I prefer absurdism when it is ambiguous and I liked the music and vocals, regardless of the lyrical content.

And food doesn't need to not taste like excrement.

As for the rest of your post, was I alone in finding it utterly incomprehensible?

I think it's a funny, cool way for these acts to capitalize on their fame/celebrity to raise a few bucks for a good cause.

Are you a friend of Nick, too many notes? I agree with you about his motivation for doing this - it's good. The site, though, is not a terribly effective bit of promotional material.

The title track they have up on the site is pretty awesome, though wrapped in a flash applet.

It's a Halloween album done by a supergroup of artists (Well, except for Sum 41). It's for charity. Who gives a shit about parody or satire? I don't.

And food doesn't need to not taste like excrement.

So you're saying this is an excrable song, which is not insightful about why the song is excrable. As for my comment, I was attempting to explain how the song is satire because it is ironic, even if it isn't funny. If you need something explained you could ask, but that wouldn't be caustically witty of you.

louigi: I don't know Nick at all, I just appreciate the stuff he makes. The link's been posted all around today, and I'm suprised it hasn't generated more discussion, since a lot of people don't seem to get it.
