(Yeah, it's Salon: but Talbot has a point. Had this been outside the US, with Jimmy Carter and the other observers, the last few days' lunacy would have left no-one in any doubt that the state couldn't organise a pissup in a brewery.)

What I would really like to see is Florida cut off from the rest of the country with a giant saw like in that Bugs Bunny cartoon. "Here you go, South America!". That way we could get rid of all of those annoying old farts that flood up here every spring, summer and fall.Oh wait, you were talking about the election!

Well, what with Cheney on the verge of physical collapse, I figure maybe the candidates could swap VP's and the Bush/Lieberman ticket would then move into the White House. It's a win-win situation: First, Lieberman would get a party worthy of his views and second, there'd be at least one of the original Republicans who could then claim -- thanks to his switch to Gore -- that he was on the side that had won a popular mandate. I'm waiting for the Salon article.

I could go for that, leo: since the "curse" suggests that it's more than likely someone will take a pop at ol' Dubya, you might end up with President Lieberman.

I'd rather start disenfranchising some of these bozos who made incorrect assumptions about how the Constitution (as well as the rest of our legal system) works, and are now whining that it doesn't work the way they wanted it to. Especially the ones delibreately choosing to misinterpret the law for partisan reasons.

So to sum up: Lieberman and Cheney switch. Bush eventually bows out due to some incapacity. Lieberman succeeds him and, at some point, the "bozos" are disenfranchised.

Well, that settles the matter for me.

Lieberman as president? I'd try to imagine it, but I'm afraid I'd explode in a fit of anger. The thought of him as vice president is bad enough. Combining Mr. Censorship with Mrs. PMRC is definetly not a good thing for the constitution.

I know that people have been saying this for weeks, but I can't see any favorable outcome to this situation. I really don't want any of these turds to be my president. Even if someone knocked off all four of them, we would still end up with President Hastert. Yeesh!

Well, at least on the bright side of things, we're not likely to get Alexander Haig on TV saying he's calling the shots. That's something. Also, all those people associated with Teapot Dome -- they're not coming back either. So it isn't a total loss.
