Gangsta Chimp Just one of the award winning peices of CG artwork at the CG Choice Gallery. From the amazingly lifelike to the fantastic and whimsical

That would be Gangster Chimp.

"Gangsta Chimp" would be wearing a whole lot more bling, packing a 9mm instead of a .45, and holding the thing upside down.

some of these are corkers, but this is my fave. Too many tall trees, I guess.

The title of the peice is "gangsta chimp".

Anybody else who thinks the implications of this (choose "face gallery", click on the image to see how it's made) is scary?

Just having a bit of fun delmoi. No offense intended. It's a great find and a totally worthy FPP.

I remember when Bryce 3D was starting to make it big as a downloadable product maker on the web. Back then, it was "supa-pimpin" to have a Bryce-based wallpaper on your desktop. The office cronies would think you were pretty edgy.

This site puts all of that to shame. Some of these are so realistic it's hard to believe that they were modeled at all. My eye just can't plain tell the difference.

Realistically (rim shot), how long before this kind of thing really revolutionizes both Hollywood and jurisprudence? No actors, no sets, no evidence, no way to believe anything you are not seeing for yourself in real time. And maybe not even then...

People have been talking about computer 3D replacing Hollywood for quite a while now, but you still need people to capture the actions. While these stills are incredible, I'd like to see what they can do with real movements.

Of coures, Gollum in Lord of the Rings had more personality than just about anyone in any of the Star Wars prequels, so maybe there's hope.

And that's how I think they'll do it. You still can't get realistic animation unless you're rotoscoping. Oddly enough, it was one of the cartoon versions of Lord of the Rings that I watched as a child that really brought this home for me.

I love this. As a soon to be father, I can't imagine what it will be like for my daughter to grow up in a world where you won't be able to distinguish a photo from a painting from a rendering.

speaking of wacky implications, i've started seeing pictures like this on the covers of romance novels. (never mind what i'm doing looking at 'em in the first place) I have to wonder what this means for this facet of Fabio's illustrious career?
what's next? real butter?

thanotopsis : "You still can't get realistic animation unless you're rotoscoping"

Man, it's been a looong time since I came across that word. Crystal and Topas used to have a "rotoscope" feature. But I haven't seen it in any 3D S/W on the NT platform, since.

And hasn't CGTalk been linked before? If not, I totally would have done it as my first post, but I thought otherwise. I did link earlier to CG Challenges, which are contests organized for CGTalk members.

Well, there went an unexpected couple of hours. (Now I just have to feel around for my eyes...I'm sure they must have popped onto my desktop somewhere). Awesome work.

Some of this is really neat (I think I like the chimp best), but a lot of it really emphasizes the need for computer designers to actually work with more real people. Like, the eyes on the Korean face are too large and misplaced, the breasts on Daphne are either asymetrical or out of perspective (and her hair is really thin). What the computer modelling is doing really well are textures and interior shots, but not so much people because people are actually pretty damn hard to draw both acurately and well.
