Aug. 27, 1 PM: Besides, we couldn't evacuate this time even if we wanted to; we're contractually prevented from taking our cheapo rental car more than 25 miles from New Orleans.

Ha.

That looks like her and the good Doctor up in the corner there. I read some P Z Brite in high school, I think.

Actually, not to discount the NOLA stuff, but for fans, her HST entries are quite fascinating, and heartwarming.

wow. apparently the total destruction of our city and its devolution into hell is all it takes to turn this place into NolaFilter.

i cannot even believe what is happening to my city. *sigh*

Horror? I thought she wrote softcore porn novels...

That's Anne Rice, also from NO. (Where's she?)

Are all of Poppy's vampires alright?

Or Susie Bright.

Unless she's moved in the past few years I'm pretty sure that Susie Bright doesn't live in New Orleans.

rdr: you're quite right. I was just trying to clarify for nightchrome: Poppy Z. Brite is the horror writer, and Susie Bright is the pornster.

Babies are dying and she's worried about her animals?

Babies are dying and she's worried about her animals?

She's been managing what was essentially a private animal shelter for 10 years, and she's supposed to just forget about 26 animals she's been caring for for years because there are also humans suffering?

She probably just lost her home, nearly all her worldly possessions, and 26 animals she cared for, and you're going to attack her choice of worries?

Yep. They're CATS.

Yep. They're CATS.

This may come as news to you but many people consider their animals part of their families; if you were one of them you'd understand. Since you're clearly not, just leave it alone. As Zed_Lopez said, she's probably just lost everything in her life that she didn't bring with her when she evacuated.

I love it when people somehow think that the lives of human beings are somehow more important than the lives of other living creatures. Then again, that's probably why I like animals... unlike human beings, it's rather difficult for an animal to be full of shit.

OK, I humbly apologize. I'm just really upset about the human life.

Oh, fuck that. Your cynical misanthropy plays very well with high school goths, not so well here.
The lives of human beings are very much more important than those of animals. Pretending otherwise is an infantile attempt to seem "edgy."
Whether talking legally or morally, a child should be saved before a pet. Period. Full stop.
It sucks that she lost her animals. No one should begrudge her grief over that. But leave your posturing for when you're moping around in dark eyeliner and trying to impress some pale chick with your Bauhaus and vinyl pants.

Are you serious? What a vapid bunch of shit. It isn't edgy, it's called caring about all living things. But I guess because you somehow think I am "gothic" that makes it an attempt to be "edgy".

Come up with some kind of quantifiable attack and maybe I'll take you seriously.

Oh, and just to make it clear to you in your own words... I'll call you a yuppy asshole. Do I know if you are a yuppy? No. But I figure making up stuff to attack someone is just your style...
