Babies are dying and she's worried about her animals? She's been managing what was essentially a private animal shelter for 10 years, and she's supposed to just forget about 26 animals she's been caring for for years because there are also humans suffering? She probably just lost her home, nearly all her worldly possessions, and 26 animals she cared for, and you're going to attack her choice of worries?

Yep. They're CATS. This may come as news to you but many people consider their animals part of their families; if you were one of them you'd understand. Since you're clearly not, just leave it alone. Your cynical misanthropy plays very well with high school goths, not so well here. The lives of human beings are very much more important than those of animals. Pretending otherwise is an infantile attempt to seem "edgy." Whether talking legally or morally, a child should be saved before a pet. Period. Full stop. It sucks that she lost her animals. No one should begrudge her grief over that. But leave your posturing for when you're moping around in dark eyeliner and trying to impress some pale chick with your Bauhaus and vinyl pants.
