LA National Guard Wants Equipment to Come Back From Iraq

Yunji de Nies

August 1, 2005, 9:07 PM CDT

JACKSON BARRACKS -- When members of the Louisiana National Guard left for Iraq in October, they took a lot equipment with them. Dozens of high water vehicles, humvees, refuelers and generators are now abroad, and in the event of a major natural disaster that, could be a problem.

"The National Guard needs that equipment back home to support the homeland security mission," said Lt. Colonel Pete Schneider with the LA National Guard.

What good would that equipment do? 70% of their people are over in Iraq. Can't run and maintain equipment without trained, competent people behind the scenes.

Bring the people home, too.

My brother, the former NoLa resident, clued me into the local TV station websites on Friday. They've got a lot of video feed and coverage you can't see in the national press. You can find it easily by googling.

Look at the dateline, people. August 1.

Man, the paper trail on this whole clusterfuck is just stupefying. Would that we could stone Bush's incompetent cronies in the public square.

Col. Schneider says the state has enough equipment to get by, and if Louisiana were to get hit by a major hurricane, the neighboring states of Mississippi, Alabama and Florida have all agreed to help.

Oh Gee! Look what happened! They were all hit by a hurricane too. Who woulda thunk it?

But, wait, <a href=http://www.americanprowler.com/util/print.asp?art_id=8693" ">Ben Stein says that "There is not the slightest evidence at all that the war in Iraq has diminished the response of the government to the emergency. To say otherwise is pure slander."

How can this be? Oh, wait! It's because Ben Stein is a lying sack of shit. Now I get it.

From psmealey's link:

Where did the idea come from that salvation comes from hatred and criticism and mockery instead of love and co-operation?

Pretty much the only thing on the whole page that made sense.
