Frank Zappa did two kinds of music and they were completely unrelated. There was the Rock, of course. (Ah, that takes me back: "Lumpy Gravy" and "We're only in it for the money". The Mothers of Invention.)
But there was also serious orchestral music. He always wanted that to be more successful, but there wasn't a lot of interest in it. I understand it was extremely sophisticated.
But then, his rock music was also very sophisticated, at least in the early days. And then there was 200 Motels which is easily the strangest film I've ever seen.
