Gargantuan Man Has Tumor

He's got ginormous size, monstrous handles, and a floor-dunk. He also has a tumor. Fortunately for basketball fans, the kindness of strangers is what's saving Sun Ming Ming. (not related to the rich Ming).

明明?

Is that his real name? Sounds like the name of a panda.

(wonder whether the characters come through...)

Poor guy.

I once played in a 3 on 3 final against a 7' 4' seventeen year old, he was thin but surprisingly coordinated-- even my improvised fade-away hook shots were getting checked all over the place, it was a desperate situation. Friends told me afterwards he was barely jumping. He was tipped for the NBA but injury (repeated fractures, I think) have left him a permanent cripple.

It seems true gigantism is a high stakes disorder; although you are likely to live a life of misery, there is a chance of absolute financial freedom living the dream in the pros. I cant think of any disorder like it.

Thanks for the post, it is nicely put together.

High risk, high yield.

It almost looks like a softball ball in his hands.

Am I wrong in thinking that really really tall guys make basketball lame? It's not a real dunk if you just reach up there, you should glide through the air. Aww yeah.

I'd like to see a wee man league. With trampolines, and flaming hoops.

Monkey - there is, or was, an under 6' league. Probably restricted from flaming hoops. Those nets are expensive and the players would be too short to put out the fires.

The surgery, ten year follow-up treatments and therapy are estimated to cost over $100,000.

Isn't that the kind of amount that Jordan (who still makes $33 million a year) or any of a few dozen other former or current NBA stars could just pay out of their lunch money? Instead, to raise the money they are "reaching out to the community for assistance via grassroots and Internet campaigns."

Hey, Mike. Buy the kid an operation.
