There lay Vera. Jacob Appelbaum posted about body recovery in New Orleans today, posting photos of what is apparently the destroyed remnants of the interim tomb of one Elvira "Vera" Smith at the "corner of Magazine Avenue and Jackson Street." Smith's daughter hopes her body will be brought to her former home of Victoria, Texas, for final burial. Smith's tomb was the single most indelible image of the New Orleans disaster, reprinted - and shot - countless times over the past two weeks.
Discuss. God help us all.

please note that Jacob is apparently unaware that the image he posted are of the "Here lies Vera" grave, and therefore unsavoury fingerpointing at any bloggers should be directed at me, not him. Jesse, hope your grave gets the same treatment, kissy kissy.

Not that harsh, though the "Discuss. God help us all." reduced the strength of your post. (IMHO, of course.) Do you have other examples of the image of her grave? I admit to being numb with images right now, but I didn't see it as "the single most indelible image of the New Orleans disaster." I ask, because I gather you want us to discuss if it truly was TSMIIotNOD. If it was Jacob's blog you wanted us to discuss I would have preferred you'd point out more of his notable posts. I hope those points help your discussion. On preview: I refuse to dignify DaShiv's linked image with any discussion.

Another nobody blogger pedaling points through a catastrophe. I find the concept of "nobody blogger" to be an interesting one. On reflection, I think it says more about the person using the expression than it does about the blogger. I happen to believe that a valid point is a valid point regardless of whether it comes from a celebrity or a kid in the classroom - an "A-List Blogger" or an ordinary person making an expression in his blog. Would The Jesse Helms feel it was fair to dismiss all of his/her opinions as "Another nobody poster pedaling points through a MeFi comment?"

Took me a while to find the similarities in the pictures. But yes, this is definitely Vera's "tomb". I wonder what happened. Vidiot, I would love to visit your world where things are black and white, and so childishly simplistic. Bullshit. I invite you take a look at -- well, most of what I've written online. I think I can handle nuance, thanks. But Imitation of Christ is solely interested in the "shock" value of this, and I say they're assholes for proposing to profit off someone's death and the image of her grave. They're not doing this to call attention to the manifold tragedies and indignities that befall the Veras of the world, they're doing this to sell expensive designer clothes.
