Never mind jumping the shark, has Tom Green lost it? As if Freddy Got Fingered wasn't sad enough, the former Mr. Drew Barrymore is picking blogfights with bloggers!? Isn't it embarrassing enough to be a quasi-celeb with a blog, let alone use it to rally your fans into send hate-mail and threats to a little-known blogger? Or is this just another childish attempt to embarrass his parents?

Yeah I was reading through and I couldn't decide who I hated more. It looks like Tom Green somewhat harmlessly picks on a blogger and the blogger totally freaks out. Yeah, what Tom did was lame and not funny but that's what Tom Green does, don't take it personal. The blogger seems to somewhat enjoy the negative attention (hell he got posted on the front page of Metafilter). Tom Green does something for attention and pisses off self-important blogger. I hear Kate Moss does coke, the Pope is against birth control.

Freddy Got Fingered was genius. You all suuuuuuck. Also, the first couple years of the Tom Green Show - first on public-access cable in Ottawa and Toronto, later on Canada's Comedy Network - had more than a few moments of Andy Kaufman level innovation and brilliance. For example, there was the time he had the hood of his dad's car airbrushed with an elaborate, '70s-van-style graphic of two warrior princesses in lusty embrace with the logo "Slutmobile" written beneath, and then hid in the storage bin next to the driveway to film his dad's reaction the next morning, and then drove the Slutmobile to the bus stop where his dad stood embarassed with a handful of other commuters, asking him why he didn't like the Slutmobile. That was one of the most inspired TV comedy bits in the last decade, as far as I'm concerned. That early stuff was so good, in fact, that I'm willing to forgive Tom's current moribundity in hope that he's got another trick or two to show us. Some of that early stuff is available on DVD. Joe Bob says check it out.

This is on-point, so I'll post it. Toro magazine (a Canadian magazine for men) has a piece on Tom Green's new rap tour, The My Bum is on Your Lips show. For some of the people that can't stand the man, it might give an idea of what he's actually all about. Kaufman-esque ideed.

Who? Tom Green. Just another asshole that did unoriginal "lookatmelookatme" buffoonery on TV in the 1990's. His only qualification as an entertainer apparently is that if you met him on the street you'd really want to punch him. Some people think that's funny. Yeah. I don't get it either.

See the thing about Kaufman is....Kaufman is Kaufman. It's kinda like proclaiming oneself the second Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico. There can really be only one Joshua Norton. There is a school of contemporary art in Chicago. I was sorely tempted to throw a brick through their window labeled "Dadaism" But I didn't. Too passe. Wow. A lot of people here really don't like Tom Green. I never thought I'd say this but maybe some people are too cynical? I wonder how much of this is due to watching the creepingly corporate MTV-style Green, as opposed to the earlier, more genuinely crazy Rogers-style Green. The man is his own thing, he's no Dada Jr. carbon copy crazy. I'm with gompa and UncleDave on this. Let's wait and see what he's got up his sleeve before we all decide he's Yesterday's Man. I just read Tom's book and it reignited my curiousity. Anyways, we still love him up in Canada.
