I see things like this and wonder how people can berate movies like Batman and Robin because it's not "True to the original."

Not that the movie is good by any means, but this campy version of Batman was around long, long before the more modern, Dark Knight version we know and love today.

Dude, all I can say is that Batman had a lot, a lot of balls. Brass ones, mind you.

All librarians have skirts that turn into capes. It's totally standard issue.

Yes, but the TV show was good camp, and the Shumacher movies were terrible, terrible camp.

Now if you'll excuse me, I must dance the Batsui.

Batusi, no?

guys, guys. there is definitely an easy solution (at least one) to playing real media files and it's called Real Alternative. i thought everybody knew about this by now, but maybe not? google "real alternative" for a bunch of links to download the software or follow this one, for example, to get the most recent version.

Whatever. I don't feel compelled to post two seconds after I've made a typo, especially when it's fuckin' obvious as to what I meant.

Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb.

When she changed into Batgirl, her legs were covered in sparkly purple stockings, but I don't think her skirt/cape was long enough to cover her legs.

I loved the campy 60s Batman, and I liked the nods to the 60s show in the trailer for the fake movie Grayson (which we discussed previously).

Yes, Mr.Encyclopedia, and some of us are capable of loving the campy TV series for what it was, but it was not the original. The original -- which was around some 27 years before the TV series -- was the comic book Bat-Man. The TV adaptation came along and established its own tone (a reasonably self-effacing interpretation of the comic-book sensibility) but completely missed the more serious approach that was at the heart of the comic-book Batman, especially when this all-too-human hero was compared to other super-hero books.

Miller's The Dark Knight was not a "new" interpretation, it was very much a return to the original, albeit with a more intelligent and self-aware undercurrent. Bruce Wayne is one fucked-up character, and not acknowledging that is a sin.

The Burton Batman was in many ways influenced by this but Schumacher came along and brought in more elements of the TV series.

Now, Batgirl, though -- she was pretty much created out of whole cloth for the TV series, for deliberate demographic reasons. They ditched the character post-Crisis but eventually revived her using various personalities to take on the role.

Man that Barbara Gordon/Batgirl really does it for me in an Agent 99 sort of way.

But the whole librarian/leather bat outfit thing...wow

And here I was sure this was going to be about superheroine transformations.

kirkaracha - no-one is allowed to look at librarian's legs, so that disguise is plausible.

As a male librarian, now you all know my secret shame.

Man, I can't imagine what it must be like to walk around all day with your 'supernero' costume on underneath your clothing all day long, perspiring on a hot summer day, running back and forth filing books, putting them away. lifting piles of books generating yet more sweat, which has nowhere to go in that tight little vinyl outfit she has on... Must be like being cooped up in a sauna all day long. No wonder she's so thin. Just imagine what Batman, Robin or Superman must smell like after they've whipped off their civilian garb to go fight crime! In Superman's case it must be B.O. to derail a freight train! And Batman, with his weird 'bat guano' musk... But Robin, why he just smells like... bird poop.

Even before the TV show there was a Batman movie serial. Awful stuff that can only be appreciated in an archly ironic way.
