I bet this slice of German history has put the local Greens in quite a dilemma.

All they have to do is remove about 3 trees, to get the crook off one of the arms. Then it isn't a symbol, and the enviros stay happy.

I think they should leave it. It's pretty interesting from a(n) historical perspective.

Couldn't they water the trees with green food coloring or something? Or does changing the pH balance of the soil only work on flowers? I'm no good at this, though another of my namesake certainly ought to know.

Hint: Search for "Ethan Johnson" on the linked page.

Call me a dogged First Amendment type. But I think it should be kept, if only to remind others of the extraordinary lengths that people went to in order to preserve something they believed to be magnamious. (We're talking about cultivated trees here, for crying out loud!)

Given that there are those who continue to deny that the Holocaust ever happened, tearing down any vestige of that truly despicable period in human history draws parallels to the book burnings and the innocent millions that the Third Reich systematically destroyed.

It is important for us and future generations to remember the dreadful meaning of that swastika, if only for the horrendous crimes to resonate in those who see these ghastly yellow trees from the air.

Germany doesnt WANT to remember. The faster it can put the espisode behind it the better -- how many monuments does America have to the genocide of American Indians on the Washington Mall.

The death camps still exist, and they're reminder enough for me. Leaving reminders is one thing, but this is disgusting. Tear it down.
