Restoring Free Speech and Liberty on Campus. American universities haven't always been centers of free speech. Donald A. Downs, a professor at the University of Wisconsin, explores free speech battles on some US campuses.

This post was deleted for the following reason: ads for books make for crappy posts

According to Harvey Mansfield, the cost of free speech is almost as high as the tuition.

"Downs notes the difference between free speech and academic freedom is that the latter, unlike the former, relates to truth."

Will universities balance sensitivity with "fearless sifting and winnowing by which alone the truth can be found"?

I second wheelieman. It took me 5 second to find Mr Downs' profile as well as links to a few articles he's written on the same subject.
