Apparently, the Times didn't quite agree with the methodology used by Shanghai Jiao Tong University to construct a similar list.

I like this one better; UT Austin is ranked much higher than in the Shanghai list.

What, no Purdue University? One of the biggest Midwest schools with a huge international student body and some of the best programs in the country (computer science, engineering, Krannert Business School, etc.) and no mention? Come on!

What, no Purdue University? Relax, handshake. Yer Boilermakers are #59 on the world list, and 25th in North America. Besides, I wouldn't get too worked up about a supposedly indepth study that calls my beloved alma mater "Wisconsin University".

From my cursory examination, this list seems to show a distinct liberal arts bias, undervaluing scientific accomplishment somewhat.

From my cursory examination, this list seems to show a distinct liberal arts bias, undervaluing scientific accomplishment somewhat. Considering the source, is this surprising? I'm guessing the results would be vastly different if the article was instead for IEEE Spectrum.

I like the idea of Colleges that Change Lives better (if only because my school is on the list). Something about discovering not what you're good at doing, but what you're meant for.

Huh, I totally missed Purdue on there the first time I looked at it. Very cool - even if most rankings are bullshit.
