you know, the first link made me think that the final 200gb nano product was encase in an interesting book-like product. Clearly, I am unfamiliar with the original nano's packaging. this is awesome.

could....could this actually work? can you wire a serial ATA hard drive to an iPod? where it mentions something about compact flash being written to ATA specifications i lost a little bit of my skepticism. now i realize i don't know enough about hardware specs to know if this'd work. crazy.

Even if the bogus bit about flash memory were true, there's no way in hell you could meet the power requirements of that disk drive from the battery of a Nano. This Is A Fake.

The wiring diagram looks a little dubious. A parallel interface would involve a lot of wires attached in a row to the same area on the motherboard, no? Plus the finished product doesn't seem to have a huge data cable protruding anywhere. But, some schmukus is going to try it anyway.

I know people used to buy Rio Carbon MP3 players, pop them open for their hard drives, and plug them directly into their digital cameras where a flash memory card is supposed to be. This was supposedly cheaper/easier than actually finding a 5GB flash card. Whether that has any bearing I don't know, but they do have bearings...

I was so shocked thinking that the nano battery had a 5v and a 12v rail, and cold power a full size hard drive...then I came to the conclusion it is total bullshit.

Though I don't agree with the DMCA at all, I prefer to use a digital-music player that doesn't require me to violate the DMCA to use the player properly (i.e. transfer music wherever I'd like).
