Alternatively kids could physically pick up things with manipulation tools called "hands", look at them with receptors called "eyes" and then draw something, again using the "hands" which will do a variety of user defined tasks.

Related: One of the guys behind this is also behind Cellular Squirrel (previously on MeFi, egregious self-promotion). MIT certainly is the place for interesting new technology of limited use.

DeluxePaint on the Amiga did this 18 years ago - they even called them brushes.
