does this mean Henry Winkler's running as VP?

Wow. An Onion post. Now a 80's-TV-star-for-president post. This is pretty riveting stuff.

So is "(Funny Celebrity) in 2008" the new dancing goddamn baby? Walken was funny, but now I'm kind of done with it.

However, I'll always hold a special place in my heart for McGuyver. A staple of my NYU days were the notorious "McGuyver and Ice Cream" nights. He's just so crafty, ya see.

But can he beat Walken in '08?

Tough opponent to topple.

Oh man. We have like... three more years of these, don't we?

Allow me to go ahead and whittle things down a bit, so as to make the path easier...

"Rick Springfield in 2008!"

"Gobo Fraggle in 2008!"

"Jeff Spicolli in 2008!"

"That Robot From Riptide in 2008!"

"VIKI in 2008!"

"The Cast of 'It's A Living' in 2008!"

"Ad Nauseum in 2008!"

One episode he's disengaging a bomb, another episode he's making a bomb. Which one is it MacGuyver?

FLIP FLOP!

Because America needs more mullets!

Besides, isn't he like fighting aliens in Stargate SG-1 now or something?
posted by fenriq at 12:12 PM on October 13, 2005

Actually, he's no longer on the series with the new season out, fenriq.

William Devane for president! Unlike the others, he has the qualifications:

General, U.S. Marine Corps (The X-Files)
Secretary of Defense (24)
Secretary of State (The West Wing)
President (Stargate SG-1)

Rick Springfield in 2008!

If we're going to elect someone from the cast of Battlestar Galactica, the only moral choices are Maren Jansen or Laurette Spang. With Erin Grey for VP.

Myself, I'm holding out for the alien butt baby guy from The Daily Show. So that's who it was... in the dark I always thought it was Rod Steiger...

"That Robot From Riptide in 2008!"

Bravo! Nicely obscure*.

Although it seemed to be cut of more Vice Presidential cloth, IIRC.

*"This detective show was one of my favorite shows. The exploits of Vietnam vets turned detective team Cody, Nick, and Murray (the computer expert) were followed in this fun, action packed show which I watched regularly. Adding to the fun, they lived on a yacht! I liked it. "

No, he's MacGuyver...looking at the US's economy, was there an episode where he made shit into Gold?
posted by thomcatspike at 12:49 PM on October 13, 2005

PedantFilter: It's actually spelled MacGyver (without the 'u').

I don't think he'd make a good president; maybe Pete Thorton for President, and MacGyver for VP?
posted by Godbert at 12:56 PM on October 13, 2005

cleverusername, then I guess his schedule has been cleared! I'd vote MacGyver over Bush/Cheney/Frist/DeLay anyday.

I'm just hoping Gary Coleman kept his mailing list from when he ran for Governor.

If not Coleman, how about Gary Cole? He's been V.P.

He is scheduled to be kidnapped by Patti and Selma in an upcoming Simpson's episode. I believe it will air in March. We'll see if he gets free in time to officially launch his campaign.

How bout Fred Thompson from that Clint Eastwood/ secret service movie? He actually looks like he could be a politician.

Harrison Ford/John McCain '08!!

The one was a decorated war hero, spent time in a POW camp, and knows that we shouldn't torture people,
The other is both Indiana Jones, AND Han Solo.
Plus he played a convincing president.

I think Harrison ford either wouldn't lie to people, or would be good at making everyone else believe it, too. Isn't that the hallmark of a good president?
