Was the G4 actually around when Faith No More were of any significance? you mean, when they were still together? No. They broke up before the G3 came out. But Mike Patton continued making music in Mr Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk and with various other people's projects since then.

Mr. Bungle's first album and Fantomas' several albums are just about the most awesome things ever. Ipecac is quite the unique label, and Patton has an amazing way with his voice that you have to hear to believe - Faith No More aside. (That was his sellout band.) That said, this is a little sad, really.

I ran into Patton in the street a few weeks ago, which was a surprise. He was in town to put on a show the next day (Fantomas). The show was great, and when I talked to him after the show, he seemed happy that I made it OK, got tickets, and the like. I asked for a picture with him, and asked him not to spit in my ear or anything (actually worried that he would). He chuckled, said "Don't worry", and proceeded to smile for a picture while not spitting in my ear. So it looks like "asshole mode" is not always on with him. Then again, most of the assholy stuff I've read about him doing was quite a while ago, so I figure he's just grown up and mellowed.

I really wish I had done a little research on Mike Patton before I bought the cd with him and Kaada. It really sucks. I bought Kaada's previous album and liked it. If I knew it would have Mr Bungle taint on it I would have saved my self a few bucks. I tend to think of the type of music Patton does as 'asshole rock'. Usually characterized by a 'we know more about music than you, if you don't like it you're stupid' attitude. This post defiantly re-enforces that. (I just went and looked at the picture and really wish I hadn't.) Now that I think about I bet Patton thinks the people who like his music are stupid. While I'm at it I might as well go ahead and say: Tom Waits is the most over-rated piece of shit ever. I mean come on.

Cool, I guess that either makes me a bigger asshole than Patton, or means that I know more about music than he does, because I generally like it. With exceptions, of course (that Tzadik "Adult Themes for Voice" is shit on a platter). But I enjoy Tomohawk, Fantomas, and Mr. Bungle in a straightforward "I like this music because I like the way it sounds" way, as opposed to the "I like this music because it's really avant garde and so much cooler than other music, because nobody understands it" way. We agree on Tom Waits, though.

Oh, and I heard he did a duet with Bjork! Is it true? He (and Razhel from the Roots) sing on a few tracks on the newest Bjork album 'Medulla' which, within moments of purchasing it, became one of my top 5 favorite recordings. The whole album (with only a few minor exceptions) is entirely vocal.

I waded through this to see if anyone mentioned Patton's angelic choirboy voicing on Eyvind Kang's Virginal Coordinates. Nope. VC is also available on Ipecac. I am amused by the number of people who pigeonhole Patton as one narrow type or another. I am probably the least likely Patton fan, but I find his work with Lovage interesting as well as some of the Bungle and a few Faith No More songs. I've heard the Secret Chiefs and Tomahawk, as well as the various projects he's worked with John Zorn on. One dimensional he is not. Yes, I think it comes down to: your favorite band sucks. But buy his used computer. NFW.

I'm going to look really silly now: I had absolutely no idea the Mike Patton (John Zorn/Bjork/Merzbow/Amon Tobin collaborator and Tzadik artiste) whose name is on several records I own is the same bloke as Mike Patton (from that one-hit band Faith No More). In my defence, it doesn't seem that likely! Still don't want his old computer, mind you.
