Yeah, right Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.

The Simpsons are going to... the Middle East! As a treat for viewers during Ramadan, Dubai-based network MBC has dubbed 30 episodes of the Simpsons into Arabic. But in order not to offend their audience, this version of Our Favorite Family is, well, a bit different; for instance, Homer (rechristened Omar) doesn't eat bacon or drink beer. Speculation about the fate of other characters abounds, One Angry Arab is not impressed.

Just drop the project, and air reruns of Tony Danza's show instead. It is less painful.

Don't have a cow man. Inshallah.

The Angry Arab's right. It just doesn't work.

So basically they take the animated footage, edit it, rearrange it, redub it with completely new dialogue and make a totally different show out of it? Such a thing has never been done before!

The name is the game, scratch.

Speaking of usernames, scratch that last comma in the post and turn it into a period. In your mind.

Waaah *cry* would somebody please think about Fox profits ? Why don't anybody think about Fox profits, broadcasting fees , gadgets etc ?

Poor poor Rupert Murdoch, he's so concerned about not offending people he sells episodes' airing rights at full price yet lets the local authors play havoc with them ruining local Simpson value.

What an example of lack of personal interest ..imagine his rightful anger in discovering there are mullahs more mediatically influential then him ! The shock, the horror , who's going to agitprop them the FauxNews style ?

For your information I've been editing, rearranging and rewriting Metafilter for years. my special version of Metafilter is a circle of knitting grannies swapping recipes, taking snuff, and yearning for the good old days before lesbians started wearing strap-ons to invade each other's blood-engorged behinds.

To put it another way: You have no idea how much editing of Mefi posts I've been doing... IN MY MIND!

I'll bet that works as well as a hypothetical rework of Duckman where Duckman never gets angry or insults anyone.

Cast Dick Cheney as Homer, Condelezza Rice as Lisa, George Bush as Bart, Ariel Sharon as Montgomery Burns, and Osama bin Laden as Side Show Bob and it'll be a hit.

Why don't they run it unfettered, and prove they have had America pegged all along?

No Lisa. It's crazy enough it just, might, work!

Seems a long shot. Must've been an interesting process figuring out which 30 eps to go with. Any guesses as to who's in and who's out as key ep characters:

In - Burns, Prof Frink, Nick Riviera (safe targets)

Out - Ned, Smithers (christianity, homosexuality)

Question - Will Moe remain jewish?

Worst. Shamshuns. Ever.

Is Moe Jewish? I thought he was a snake handler.

Is Moe Jewish?

Well, there is at least some evidence that he is Arabic.

My suggestions:

Homer Phobia

Three Gays of the Condo

Like Father, Like Clown

In 1992 I spent the summer in Jordan and saw an episode of the Simpsons on local TV. It was broadcast in English with Arabic subtitles. My strongest memory of the episode was when Homer says "Bar-be-que" and it was translated in Arabic as "Shwarma!"
