Volvo Ocean Race round the world, in a sailboat. Leg one, Spain to South Africa is underway. Check out the Virtual specator application a fantasic way of following a not particularly viewer friendly event.

Mac and Linux users, save your time: "Virtual Spectator is only available for Windows". I hope they post some videos soon, cause the Open 70s are just hair-raisingly spectacular.

Yeah, way cool. It's really neat being able to swoop down and into the boats! Looks like a couple of them have already dropped out of the race and are headed back to France. Bummer.

The virtual spectator reminds me of the WRC thing just like this, but since it's road rally the 3d seems even more amazing. I don't see it on WRC's site, so they might not be doing it anymore.

Don't forget the Australian leg, where our Navy boys inevitably have to come and rescue someone's ass.

I'm talking to you Mr. Bullimore, Mr Dubois, Ms Autissier.

The handy thing is… if our governments are currently arguing (as was the case with Ms Autissier and French nuclear tests in the Pacific) then we can politicise the whole rescue and bang-on about how good we are!

Go Australia. Bloody Australia mate.

Already 2 boats in port for repairs (problems with keel-canting-ram), and a third is heading in also (broken gooseneck). And they're not even south of the equator yet! How many boats will survive the southern ocean?
