Neat idea. Too bad the pictures are so small, though -- I'd like to be able to see more detail on some of those houses.

I guess they're concerned about bandwidth; they only want photos up to 100K, 310 x 200px.

It's kind of scary to know that this is not just an American phenomenon. Is this a new trend in England or has this been going on for 50+ years?

It's a fairly new phenomenon and an extremely unwelcome one at that. Some people have done it for years but they we always one off eccentrics. Increasingly it's becoming more popular to piss away natural resources on a gargantuan scale because of some deluded notion that the kids love it.

In my crotchety old age, which isn't here yet, I intend to burn the last few barrels of oil in their front gardens.

It'd be great if it had more than about four photos too.

I have the overwhelming desire to beat anyone who is not a rapper and uses the word "bling".

I think it's hilarious. I knew this er... um... "bling" of which you speak reminded me of something: Christmas decorations!

Incidentally, I still think it's a great link. I just hate the word "bling".

But does Silktide like it?

Edmonton, Alberta's Candy Cane Lane (embedded MIDI, apologies) has been going strong for at 30 years, fortunately to the benefit of the local food bank. Several blocks of an otherwise normal residential area do it up every year for a good part of December.

I think it's super that people really get into the spirit of the season. I don't mind the light diplays either. For my family, the x-mas season begins when we start "trolling" neighborhoods admiring all of the displays. You guys should check out Mr. Al Copelands (of Popeye's Chicken and Biscuit fame) yearly light display in New Orleans (Metairie), LA. I Could not find a decent link. It's is one of the best in the world
