Well, he IS Gary Glitter...

The real crime is that someone who wrote a song that goes, "Na na na na, HEY" can still get residual checks 20 years later.

rock and roll, part two!

You know, when comeback-attempt publicity stunts begin to involve extended stays in a third-world, communist clink, it's time to consider the practical importance of that comeback. Nah nah nah nah, indeed.

Apparently he is so far out of touch with reality that he thought by going to the Third World, he could return to his old child-loving ways and get away with it What a dolt. I hope he enjoys spending the rest of his life in a Vietnamese prison. I'm sure that will be a positive experience.

Oh, and Slade was way better.

This is rock and roll.

Uh, Ber? a charge that carries the death penalty on conviction ... I don't think it's the life in jail he's worried about ...
posted by kaemaril at 9:26 PM on November 26, 2005

The charge that carries a death penalty on conviction is child rape, which Glitter hasn't been charged with (yet...) The "formal charge is engaging in perverse activities with children", which has a maximum sentence of 12 years according to the first link, 16 years according to the third.

I taught English in Vietnam, and I can tell you first hand that every white guy over thirty there is totally weird.

Is it time to change the posting guidelines to "The Rest of the Web" yet?

Never mind that one. What about the one that goes:

Do you wanna touch?
(Yeah!)
Do you wanna touch?
(Yeah!)
Do you wanna touch me there?
(Yeah!)
Do you wanna touch?
(Yeah!)
Do you wanna touch?
(Yeah!)
Do you wanna touch me there? Where? There!
(Yeah!)
(Oh! Yeah! Oh yeah!)
(Oh oh yeah!)
(Oh yeah! Oh yeah!)

I love this:

He also told the Thanh Nien newspaper that all the girls previously told him they were older than 20, because, apparently he’s not about teaching minors new language skills.

Gary, you've gotta pick a defense: either you were screwing them (in which case you definitely want to stick to the older-than-20 line) or you were teaching them (in which case it sounds pretty bizarre).

Rock and Roll part 1 had lyrics though!! I kid you not!

Pigpen: Yeah, I saw that. I mentioned that the higher charge carried the death penalty, not the life sentence bit, because even for somebody Gary Glitter's age (in his sixties, iirc) 16 years for the lesser charge need not be the life in prison that Ber thought he ought to be appreciating :)

I dunno, the older I get the younger people look not the other way round.

Oh sure, it's easy to castigate pedophiles. It's easy to pile on negative comments about talentless musicians. We can all make fun of his clothes or his hairstyle or his intelligence in choosing such a facile defense. And it's easy to laugh that he will be spending 12 years or more in jail.

What...I'm just sayin' it's easy.

Nice how he paid them $10 per fuck session.
guess the royalties aren't so spectacular on whatever the fuck song he did before these girls were born.

borkingchikapa, I spent a month there a couple of years ago, and I totally second that - if by weird you mean alcoholic, paedophilic or psychotic - or a combination of those...

I taught English in Vietnam, and I can tell you first hand that every white guy over thirty there is totally weird.

I have several white male friends in Vietnam, none of whom are "totally weird". There are without doubt a high number of dubious Western men in the area, but to paint them all in such childish terms does an injustice to those people who are working in the area to help develop the country with the best of motivations and intentions. But of course borkingchikapa's teen-aged observations on the area, apparently gathered over a few weeks faithfully following the backpacker circuit, Lonely Planet clutched nervously in hand, are suspect to begin with.

I'm curious why the age of 30 is chosen?
