The latest music video from legendary metal band Karkis totally rocks my holiday spirit.

That was awesome. I especially like the line "you're the darkest bulb upon the tree".

Is it just me, though, or do these guys end up sounding more like Rush than metal?

Okay, we knew this already, so Rush and Jerry are behind this Satan... Um I mean Santa guy too? ( I did more than chuckle though)

Yeah, Karkis has definitely gotten a little prog-rocky with their latest effort. I think it's nice when bands change their sound with the times, but come on, do we really need another Tool?

And, well, who's the girl ?

1. totally rocks my holiday spirit. Agreed.

2. Just keeping score - flames, makeup, falsetto vocals and leather-clad vixens are cool as long as it's all ironic, is that about the size of it?

3. do these guys end up sounding like Rush I was prepared to disagree violently, but in fact, I got a certain Caress Of Steel vibe.

4. MetaFilter: The darkest bulb upon the tree.

I was totally unprepared for what happens about 3/4 of the way through.

I wasn't sure if they were serious or not, but that really just swayed it towards "not."

It's Spinal Tap, but fatter and without the funny.

You know, this and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra inspired christmas display have put me in a rather unusual mood this christmas.

I prefer Carcass.

Looks like an elaborate self-promotion to me. A spoof, but a pretty entertaining one. There's a plug for Ignited Minds at the end of the video. The message boards at karkis.net seem a tad phony too :)

(oh, and karkis.net is registered to Ignited Minds)

I would pay money to see this chubby bizzarro prince lead-singer punched out like Danzig.

And it needs way more cowbell.

meh

It's a joke, right? Only not funny? Or am I missing something?

Not funny? *I* was laughing at them. Hot chick though.

These are the same people that made last year's Weapon of Mass Affection video... are those the same actors?

For UK folks - did anyone else get a serious Bill Bailey vibe off the lyrics? I could well picture him singing this tune in one of his shows.

For non-UK folks, Bill Bailey is a Renaissance man of a standup comic, hero to geek folk everywhere, West Country balladeer and general weirdo. Ace.

They should cover Tarkus.

Given the lyrics and MysticMCJ's post I was expecting the chick would turn out to be a dude at the end.

Phew!
