Read your MetaFilter at Protopage

Read your MetaFilter at Protopage Version 2 will blow your socks off - and it was already one of the most useful tools on the web. It's an online notebook, a news reader and a bookmarks page that you can share or keep private. They just released a ton of new features including RSS (you can use it to keep up with your MeFi / Ask MeFi feeds - check the feed directory under 'Blogs'). They're also asking for people to write in with their top feature requests. You can probably tell, I'm a big, big fan.

Double post . . . by you, no less.

Yeah, do you have some sort of financial interest in protopage? The first time you linked this site it seemed like an earnest new find, but this one seems like Popeil paired you off with George Forman.

Yep, v2 is so spectacularly upgraded - almost like a whole new product, I thought it deserved a bit of a plug. I'm hoping they're listening and will send me a free windbreaker or something :)

And yep to the double post comment, not to the financial interest one. It's made by Brits, so I'm biased.

Man that's ugly. Not a terrible idea though. Doesn't work too well in opera neither.

That's cool, I do agree it seems to be a lot better than it was before. If it had a calendar setting I would be elated, but doesn't seem to be in there yet. Maybe v3

Your web browser software is out of date or unsupported. This site may not work correctly for you.

Unfortunately, Protopage.com uses browser technologies that Safari does not yet support. We hope to bring back Safari support soon. Until then, we highly recommend you use the Firefox web browser (download it from www.getfirefox.com).

To try Protopage with Firefox, go to www.getfirefox.com where you can download a new web browser.
They're just too Web 2.0 for the latest Safari, a very good standards-compliant browser. Lame.

Personalised web portals were crap with "web 1.0". And by the looks of it they aren't any better now with the bells and whistles added.

And this fpp is just spam.

Hey, I resent the spam comments. I thought it was good enough for a post - I certainly like it.

Looks like it might be a neat tool. Thanks for posting it.

That is hideous.

It sounds a good idea. It doesn't look much in practice though...

I still think some people are being a little unfair however.

Hey, I like it. I've seen this kinda thing before, but this is the best so far.

He liked it so much he bought the company.

Ok, after looking at it a bit more... there's just not a lot of 'there' there. All it does is let you put notes, RSS feeds, and bookmarks on a virtual desktop.

I can do all those things much better with just the basic Firefox client and Notepad. This has a nice graphic look to it, but the functionality is so limited that it doesn't seem worth being excited about.

It's kind of dinky looking. No offense.

Well if it's any consolation, I resent the spam.

Profoundly ugly in my browser. Just fairly ugly in FireFox. Intentional double post.
This isn't going to get any better, is it?

Perhaps the first time, yeah... but less than 4 months from the first, pretty much identical post - by your good self no less... that is not a good post, whatever way you look at it.
