Following the previously discussed link, I happened upon a link to Davey Graham's website.

Apparently, most of his albums have been re-released on CDs, for which he's paid the royalty rate of 4.5% on wholesale price, with a reduction of 2/3rds of that rate for CD packaging. (Which of course, costs them less than vinyl, so why the reduction I've no idea.)

This amounts to an artists royalty of 5p per CD sold.

His manager had written to the record company, Decca (part of Universal), only to get the bum's rush.

Those record companies are thieving scumbags. May peer to peer copying bury the lot of them.

Read it yourself here under by following the link titled Decca on the left of the page.

Are there any online samples? I tried amazon.co.uk and got some message about samples not being available due to licensing restrictions.

I hope the comparisons to Nick Drake are true... just listening to him on radio 6 at the minute... genius.

Thanks, but I get the same message. They must be checking my IP address and rejecting me based on where I live.

PeterMcDermott -- no hijack, that is some good (if infuriating) info. I'd been wondering about what was happening with royalties from the new releases. here I was hoping if she ever did come back that she'd have some decent money waiting for her.

not true, alas.
Nick Drake is indeed quite unique.

although shelagh has her moments, mostly at the hand of arranger Robert Kirby (Stargazer, the track for example)
still worth checking out.

and thank you for the post and update, dorian !
