Bullet Philharmonic Orchestra. A barebones, vector shooter for PC ala Kenta Cho's made for practicing bullet dodging in manic scrolling shooters, which generates bullet patterns based on the music playing(found here (previously)). Think a very, very poor man's Rez. Here's the download link if, like me, you can't read Japanese. (about 1 megabyte, Windows only, sorry) Further instructions inside the file and comments.

Just think of this as like a sequel to the Shmups! post. At first I thought the game was kinda weak but give it a crazy song like, say, "Bohemian Rhapsody" and you'll be scrambling to stay alive, and if you're like me, cracking a grin too.

For some reason it doesn't like some mp3s, so put wav files or midis in the "music" folder. It selects one randomly when you start a new game, or there are command line instructions in the readme. Yellow sparks mean you "buzzed" or clipped a bullet, red sparks mean it hit your core and you would have died in a real shooter. This one grew on me.

I've never been able to get BPO to run. I had always assumed it wanted an MP3, I'll have to try it again once I get back from work.

it didn't like any of my mp3s. converting one to ogg did the trick though.

I don't know what the problem is in my case. As soon as it starts, it stops. It sounds like a neat idea, though. If anyone knows how to get it to work, please fill me in.

If it's stopping before it starts, the mp3 won't work with it. annoying, I know, but I usually have a few wavs sitting around for burning cds with, or you can easily make a few in winamp. those definitely work.
