As much of a Wertham-hater as I am, this is pretty lame. And besides, Wertham actually recanted towards the end of his life, although nobody believed him. Wouldn't such effort be better spent redirected towards Jack Thompson?

Yeah, pretty weak, and even though I was always a Wertham-hater myself, I recently learned about his involvement with Albert Fish, which I think explains a lot. (Chapters 19-21 go into the most detail.) Harold Schechter, while writing his book Deviant, asked Psycho author Robert Bloch "Why are people so fascinated by Ed Gein?" Bloch answered, "Because they haven't heard about Albert Fish."
