St. Lucia Day is celebrated today, primarily in SwedenMinnesota!
Growing up Catholic, I always enjoyed St. Lucia Day as proof that we aren't the only ones with insane festivals. posted by unixrat at 8:38 AM on December 13, 2005

It is a good day today.
-This morning I got presents, not "Lussekatter" and gingerbread.
-This morning I woke up to happy b-day tunes, not "Song for Santa Lucia".
-This morning I woke up without my entire family standing at the foot of my bed all dressed up as that agonising circus act.
-This morning I got... let's not go there.
-This day is probably the major reason why I left the country.
Well, that and taxes, of course. posted by psychomedia at 9:11 AM on December 13, 2005

There was a Lucia-procession at work this morning of the work-mates children, and I got a nice bun with my morning coffee. Of course it also brought back the horrible memory of not being chosen as Lucia because my complexion was too dark. *grumble*
But lussekatter is yummy. posted by mummimamma at 1:18 PM on December 13, 2005
When I lived in Italy and when the electricity would go out (a common occurence), people would complain to Santa Lucia, who I figured must be their patron saint of lights and candles.
