Enjoy the interactive art work of Lars Arrhenius. "Arrhenius often uses pictographs, the kind of stereotypical figures and universal symbols seen on public information signs. A direct use of media, and a judicious blend of austerity and irony are typical of his work. The digital characters in his animation, The Street, create an exaggerated view of daily routines, where each individual contributes to keep things going like an anonymous cog in the machine of life." Complete bio (along with additional artworks) here. Flickr slideshow of his work here.

Awesome stuff. Very clean design and very modern view of the semiotics of airplane safety cards and street signs.

This is fantastic. Both the work itself, and the well-crafted post.

To my mind, this is what the best of the web looks like: a site that uses the medium of html to present art that is served by the medium (the anonymous interactivity, or consent, in continuing the blank routine). I'll comment more as I move through further.

Damn, somehow I managed to pick death before life at each turn. Actually, it's because I'm good. Really good.

Thanks for the links, it was fun.

I have a copy of Arrhenius's A-Z, an interactive multi-path story printed on top of pages from the London A-Z Streetmap. It's really lovely, probably better served by the book format than by HTML, and veers uneasily from the touching to the amusing and the downright unsettling.

I'm a bit of a student of the multi-path narrative genre, and Arrhenius is at the top of the field.
