How's about a good blonde joke?

I prefer a good Hasselhoff joke myself.

I don't know whether to be amused or irritated. Which seems to be the case with a lot of the humor on the internets these days.

Amusitated.

I got it in three clicks. I'm not a blonde.

473 clicks later, and I ended up at MetaFilter again!

...actually, I wanted to see how far it went, and the whole thing fell apart after about 8 clicks or so, with a dead link.

This gave me a warm fuzzy feeling about our blogospheric community.

Count me as irritated, not amused.

(But I am blonde.)

I remember when this was a Polish joke and was done via telegraphs.

Zero clicks for anyone who reads comments before they click the link. (A prudent thing to do if you're at work)

I remember when this was a Navajo joke and was done with smoke signals.

I didn't see any dead links. Just an endless cycle of LiveJournals, much like my darkest nightmares.

That was pretty funny after. I got it in 3 clicks.
posted by SirOmega at 10:37 PM on January 4, 2006

I got as far as 17 or so links, stopped at some livejournal called fuzzyduck.
posted by bobo123 at 10:42 PM on January 4, 2006

god, I remember someone doing this to me at a party. I had to keep going from person to person. "It's not my joke, it's pete's..." and then pete: "no, that's lenny's joke." it was only 3 years later that I got it.

I don't get this one, though.
posted by shmegegge at 10:46 PM on January 4, 2006

Lemmie guess.. born and bread on Livejournal, virused to the internets?
I, for one, am unimpressed, and expect more from our blonde shuck-and-jiving overlords.
posted by Balisong at 10:46 PM on January 4, 2006

this wasn't funny even when they hid cave painting behind large rocks... rocks that where subsequently used to bash the head in of the originator

it would have been even better if they'd called it "iraq's wmds right here"
posted by pyramid termite at 10:53 PM on January 4, 2006

LiveJournal inter-linking... a sure sign of quality.

I remember when this was a homo habilis joke, and they did it with a high degree of prognathism.
posted by Coda at 10:58 PM on January 4, 2006

Much like the "blondest person in the world" joke where the contestants are shown a tricycle to see who's first to identify it, then a bicycle, then that one-wheeled thingy.

It keeps going back for a while then finally bottoms out in a neverending circle of links within Livejournal, which I'm pretty sure is an accurate description of Hell.

Oog. I never thought I'd see posts on Metafilter that are rehashes of jokes from back in the messageboard days. The last time I saw this was in 2003, but I'm sure it's older than that.

True story: I once wanted to set the page length to infinite in SPSS 10. I couldn't remember how, so I perused the Help file, searching for "infinite". There was this entry:

Infinite loop
See loop, infinite. (< --- that was a hyperlink) small>*clickety*

Loop, infinite
See infinite loop.

Now *that* was humour in software. They left it out in a later release.

Just thought I'd offer an actual joke:
This wagon train in the Old West is making camp for the night, even though they can hear some Indian war drums and chanting in the next valley. They circle the wagons and two cowboys are assigned to stand guard as night falls. In the space of a few hours, the tempo of the drums gradually increases as they get louder and louder. One cowpoke turns to the other and says, "Y'know, I don't like the sound of those drums."

Suddenly, they hear a voice from the Indian village:

"It's not our regular drummer."

Wow, that reminds me of webrings. Remember webrings? Forty-six sites about macrame and the only way to access them is to keep clicking the "next site" button until you hit a dead link? Or the "skip five" button until you hit a different dead link? Takes me back, man, takes me back.

I found it to be a clever incorporation of a not-all-that-funny blonde joke with the tool of blogs: the hyperlink. Blonde jokes are rarely funny, but I liked the self-regarding humor of telling the joke by hyperlink.

Just to save someone else the journey: After ~20 links you hit LiveJournal, and after about ~20 more the LJ links become recursive.
