PictureAustralia lets you search across the image collections of a bunch of (mostly Australian, but a few international) cultural agencies. It's been running in various forms since 1998 and has just started accepting contributions through the Flickr groups PictureAustralia: Australia Day and PictureAustralia: People, Places and Events. Brilliant. I typed in the name of my little town, and came up with all this which was pretty cool.

Portland, Victoria - the photos were taken during the 60's and 70's - but nothing's really changed.

Is there anybody else out there in mefi land that've wandered the beaches of Bridgewater Bay?

No response would actually make me feel more comfortable, knowing that it remains one of Australia's best kept secrets.
