Thanks, mediareport; especially for the Timbuktu mss. Ever since the Met Museum opened its wonderful Islamic wing in 1975,* I've been taken with Arabic calligraphy and related art.
*Now closed for renovation

From the Vatican link, I was surprised to learn that the Vatican initially supported Galileo's work. That complicates the usual morality play to which the story is usually reduced.

A wonderful post--thanks for bringing some Plep goodness over to the blue. We don't see much of Plep here anymore, and are poorer for it.

Nice one; I had never heard of plep before, but it's now bookmarked. Looks like a good resource for us roots music fans: Even before plundering the archives, I noticed the Robert Johnson Notebook and The Kentucky Highlands Project.
