First it was the remixed Shining trailer and now there's Brokeback Top Gun and a remixed Sleepless in Seattle trailer. [via kottke]

Ebaum AND CollegeHumor? The Brokeback/Top Gun parody isn't funny because Tom Gun is way too homoerotic to begin with. Sleepless in Seattle, meh. The Shining so far has been the only one to do this really well, which lends itself to the creepiness the film has.

Boo to the ebaumsworld link. Seriously, can we get a mefi anti-ebaums pact?

Please don't link to Ebaums world.

They are thieves.

If these aren't "re-enacted by bunnies" I'm not interested.

The sleepless in seattle one is good, on the level of the Shining, the top gun was amusing but I've already seen half a dozen brokeback parodies and have a feeling it's going to be this years "1. blah $1 2. foo $3 3. blahing your foo: priceless" joke.

Don't forget Jack Abramoff's Red Scorpion (Quicktime Movie)...

Ebaums and Kottke in the same post. yikes. might as well have included LGF, fark, and the site with the first rule that states that I can not name it.

I missed that Shining trailer whenever it was net born, but belatedly take my hat off the to maker(s), because it frigging rocked my day.
Really, a great testament to the power of editors.
and not much more ludicrous than some previews I've seen completely misrepresenting the movie proper.

Obligatory Tarantino monologue from "Sleep with Me":

He goes to her house, all right? It looks like they're going to have sex, you know, they're just kind of sitting back, he's takin' a shower and everything. They don't have sex. He gets on the motorcycle, drives away. She's like, "What the fuck, what the fuck is going on here?" Next scene, next scene you see her, she's in the elevator, she is dressed like a guy. She's got the cap on, she's got the aviator glasses, she's wearing the same jacket that the Iceman wears. She is, okay, this is how I gotta get this guy, this guy's going towards the gay way, I gotta bring him back, I gotta bring him back from the gay way, so I'm do that through subterfuge, I'm gonna dress like a man. All right? That is how she approaches it.

Actually, we all ought to link to ebaum's world. It uses their bandwidth, yeh know.

Just don't click any of the ads.

The most startling revelation to me with the Top Gun trailer was that he says "You can be my wingman anytime". I could have sworn it was "You can ride my tail anytime". I could actually hear the line in my memory. Turns out that's a myth created in Sleep With Me. Or has Cruise used his thetan powers to re-write history and deflect the gay rumors that plague him so?

Sleepless in Seattle was very good by the standards of these remixes.

Richard Daly: Unfortunately, they're getting paid just to show the ads, too. So no, never link to them.

The Sleepless in Seattle one was brilliant from a technical standpoint, but it didn't really sell me on the story. Is Meg Ryan going to kill Tom Hanks? Is she some kind of ghost/zombie? Is she a ghost zombie who is going to kill Tom Hanks?

The Brokeback Top Gun one was lame because Mav should hook up with GOOSE, not Iceman. OBVIOUSLY.

The "From the producers of The Bourne Supremacy, & Daredevil" bit in the Sleepless one got me laughing. The Top Gun one didn't get me laughing at any point.

Seriously? No, she wasn't a zombie, just a psycho female stalker, of the 'if I can't have'im nobody can' variety. I thought it was well-played.

Waaay too many cuts in the top gun trailer. Kinda liked sleepless in Seattle, but doesn't come close to even the west side story trailer from the original contest, not to mention Shining.
posted by JackarypQQ at 2:58 PM on January 26, 2006

well the sleepless cut is very, very well done. but how can you possibly beat the shining, with the narrator saying: "he's a kid... looking for a dad" with the little boy writing 'REDRUM' with a red crayon on the door. awesome.

the TOP GUN one was awful. Those Fades were doing my head in. whoever editied it is hopeless. the Shining is all class though.

*Confessor smiles*

When the opening chords of Solsbury Hill broke out in the middle of the The Shining trailer I broke down laughing.

Yeah. Shining is great. I want to see that film. Where can I rent it?

Watch for eBaum's TV Show... or email those responsible (bottom of the page) to let them know who they're getting into bed with.

This is the reason The Shining or Big work, while the rest don't. The point, to me, is to elicit humor and appreciation not simply by recutting the trailer, but by recutting it in a way that makes the movie seem to come from a completely opposite genre. SIS is already pretty stalkerish, and Top Gun is already pretty homoerotic. The Shining is a chilling suspense/horror film recut to look like a happy warm-hearted family film- the sheer surprise of seeing those same scenes cut in such a way as to seem completely different is what is impressive. Most of the rest don't hardly measure up...

Fight Club

Hopefully, this will get it out of the way, so no one wastes more space on the FP. Please no more trailer posts - the art form died in the delivery room.
