A bit too morbid. It was OK with the Gore steals Ryder Truck story - nobody got hurt and it was just too absurd. posted by palnatoke at 3:17 AM on December 18, 2000
Haha! Too awesome! A great social hack if I ever saw one. posted by ookamaka at 3:35 AM on December 18, 2000
It was interesting until I realized that all three sources, Ananova, Mr. Showbiz, and MTV News were faked. I thought one of them actually ran the story...semmed like less of a hack now. :) posted by pnevares at 4:02 AM on December 18, 2000
Taking joy in someone's death. Ohh, that's great. Sure we all hate the guy, but, awesome? posted by tiaka at 6:15 AM on December 18, 2000
Attrition.org has been getting stories like this all weekend including one on CNN about a Bill Gates sexual scandal and Napster's Shawn Fanning being named President. posted by bkdelong at 6:16 AM on December 18, 2000
tiaka.. I believe pnevares was referrring to what actually happened w/ the hack, not the thought that he was dead... sheesh! posted by tj at 8:47 AM on December 18, 2000
87 Thousand hits?
Christ, we couldn't get that many if we actually killed eminem ourselves.
At the rate I'm going, I'll get 87,000 hits by (calculating) 2238. Yee haw! Seriously, anyone who thinks webloggers are all liberal and PC should follow some of the links on that page. Some serious assholes (sample quote: THEN..the homos want to go & call Eminem a whiny bitch.) Big time. (Sample quote: Do you know what you have to do to get posting rights here?
Samn: The rule for Robotskull is you have to have a dick or show your boobies. )
Such is the case with "E/N" webloggers - typically male and in their late teens, with a largish chunk of them being right-wing types. Comes with the demographics, I guess.
...'course, the mantra of "offensiveness == more hits" doesn't hinder their motivation any, either. posted by youhas at 12:17 AM on December 21, 2000
I don't even know what an E/N weblogger is. I saw that on a couple of sites. Define?
It means Everything/Nothing. From what I understand, it comes from the stileproject (caution: porn, dead people, probably a no-no at work) about page, which reads something along the lines of...
"What is this page about? Everything... Nothing..." posted by cCranium at 12:16 PM on December 21, 2000
E/N: Everything/Nothing. Sort of a blog/journal hybrid that arose independently of mainstream weblogs. (Has its founding roots in a gaming community of late '98, of all places.) Mostly run by males aged 15-24. Sites typically have a "staff" of multiple members contributing posts. Oftentimes, a desire for "hits at all costs" leads E/Nners to be offensive, combattive, and (at extremes) posting pornography and "shock value" pics galore. posted by youhas at 12:31 PM on December 21, 2000
