interrobang: great idea. Where do we send our surplus limited-edition candy? For some reason this reminds me of Harlen Ellison buying the last supplies of a candy he had loved as a kid. He kept it in a special refrigerator.

Japan is all about seasonal snack foods. Right now there's purple potato pocky, green tea pocky, and sakura Kit Kats, among others. Pop also gets seasonal flavors, especially Fanta (currently, it's honey lemon). They stick around for a few weeks and then they're gone. If anybody would like to try some of these, email me.

Hey booksandlibretti, I see that Pay Day:The Hollywood Candy Company of Minneapolis, invented it in 1932. The inventors were trying to come up with a name for the new candy bar when one of them suggested Payday since it just happened to be payday at the company.
and 100 Grand:In the late 1950's the hottest programs on TV were quiz shows like "The $64,000 Question," "Twenty-One," and "The Big Surprise." On the "Big Surprise" the contestant chose a subject area and was asked to answer ten questions ranging in value from $100 to $100,000. The program sparked the idea for a new Nestle' product, introduced in 1966, the Nestle' $100,000 Bar whose name suggests its top-price qualities. Many of you have asked about the name change from $100,000 Bar to 100 Grand Bar. We have not been able to find out for sure but we think it has something to do with computers. A product name beginning with a dollar sign will cause most computers go nuts.
Now I think it's weird and also feeble brainstorming.

yes, it seems like there was an explosion of limited edition candy last year. Lots of new Reeses and Kit Kats. I actually liked the Inside Out Reeses. The bad one was the Extra Creamy Reeses. The peanut butter tasted like crap. Here's a question: There's also a lot of new limited edition Hershey's Kisses like caramel, peanut butter, strawberry and dulce de leche. Would those count, or are you specifically archiving candy bars?

I wish there were more reviews on the candy bars. Some of them sound downright hideous, others, I almost want to get in my car and drive to the store to find them and try them myself. More reviews!

That's a cool collection. There are general reviews of all things new and snacky (though from a UK perspective) at the rather good Snackspot. Personally I'm a big fan of the limited edition Kit Kats.

How many new Reese's have come out in the last yet? It seems a bit like they have gone insane. "Peanut butter OUTSIDE! Didn't work? Peanuts INSIDE! Didn't work? White chocolate! "Didn't work? Caramel inside!" "Caramel inside? That goes against everything we..." "Don't question me! You're fired! I said Caramel inside! Do it!"

Heh. I'm a fiend for this stuff, too. If he wants to branch out into other snacks, my man should snag himself som Churros Flavor Bugles. They're actually pretty tasty once you get past the weird cinnamon-sugar-cornchip thing.

At my local 7-Eleven, these Key Lime flavored Almond Joy bars were on the shelves for about a week. One of the ladies that works there told me she tried one and it tasted horrible; I trusted her judgment and didn't bother experimenting myself. Richmond, VA is frequently used as a test market for new food products. My high school friends and I were drinking Crystal Pepsi long before it had found its way onto store shelves all across the country.

Here's a question: There's also a lot of new limited edition Hershey's Kisses like caramel, peanut butter, strawberry and dulce de leche. Would those count, or are you specifically archiving candy bars? I'm archiving anything that I happen to see at the store that says "Limited Edition" on it. It doesn't have to be chocolate, or candy bar-shaped. I wish there were more reviews on the candy bars. Some of them sound downright hideous, others, I almost want to get in my car and drive to the store to find them and try them myself. More reviews! As the collection grows (and as I sample more of these), I'll start taking more notes. I haven't actually eaten all that many of these, and the collection is relatively young so far. I forgot before, but interrobang, are you on the lookout for Almond Joys? I can probably get you the Pina Colada and Double-Chocolate flavors. I'm not sure if either were released to the public, but one of the women at my mom's church works at the Peter-Paul plant, and awhile ago, she was passing 'em out like candy. I can vouch that the Double-Chocolate is pretty good.

Coffee KitKat? Just drive up north of the border and get Canadian Candy Stalwart "Coffee Crisp". Also, we have dark choclate KitKat up here and it is very good. And not limited either. Inside out PB cups.. I had one. Blech. Not very good. We had orange and strawberry KitKat up here for a while as well... maybe you should start soliciting foreign donations.

I was wondering that myself, splatta. It's number ninety-three on this list, written by Adam Horowitz in Business 2.0. Here's the entry:

93 No joke here. Just suffice it to say that the literal translation of the Spanish word cajeta is "little box." With the help of Latin pop sensation Thalia Sodi, Hershey introduces Cajeta Elegancita, a new candy bar for the Hispanic market. Though the wrapper features a picture of Sodi, apparently she neglects to fill her Yanqui partners in on a subtlety of Spanish: In Mexico, "cajeta" can be used to mean "nougat." Elsewhere in the Spanish-speaking world, however, it's slang for female anatomy.

Get on the Tic Tac 'Winter Warmer.' Limited edition for the Tic Tac elitist. Initial crunch's in the same ballpark as Jawbreaker Fireballs, although obviously not quite so deadly on the palette.. The aftertaste, well, that lingers. Sorta like a remixed Tic Tac Cinnamon with generous helpings of aniseed, garnished with just a smattering of pepper detected in the bouquet.. All in all a pleasing experience and a recommended choice for the debonair confectionary connoisseur. 8.37/10
