The bummer is that YouTube has started removing copyrighted stuff wholesale. Like there is now nothing for American Idol and there were hundreds of videos. I can't imagine the Daily Show stuff will last that long. We all knew it couldn't last, but it's too bad.

smackfu, i would be surprised if the daily show went that route, i get the impression that they understand the importance of viral marketing and the internet. Stephen Colbert's the word is clearly a meta inspired comedy piece, and they frequently use video shorts that have been popular on del.icio.us or boingboing.

I agree sourbrew, I think outfits like the Daily Show are more likely to "get it" . In the end, whether or not copyrighted material is removed, will be up to each distributor.

also, i think the fact that Viacom uses the Daily Show and the Colbert Report to promote movies, books, and other products in the form of guests on both shows means that their income stream is less likely to be hurt by such things where as american idol has no possible value other than as a venue to push commercials through.

Forget the teeth -- the average cat tongue is a wee little rasp. I've had to train my overly affectionate and motherly little black cat to stop licking my arms. I can't imagine training her to go for a much more sensitive spot. *shudder*

I'm pretty damn sure the writers for Colbert and TDS are reading MeFi. There have been some posts from MeFi that appear to have laid the foundation for a joke or theme for either show. I eagerly await seeing a "FFF" easter egg on Colbert.

I saw today and enjoyed it. I can understand posting to say, "This was funny" or "I enjoyed this," because that is akin to laughing along with others. What I find annoying and pointless is a comment such as, "I thought this was lame." So what? If you're not pointing out something better or offering even a critique then all you're doing is trolling. But why would an established member stoop to such behavior?

The 500KV discharge is a double, I'm sure of it... There were a couple of capacitors that failed to separate in time, and the vid is an edited result of the electrical discharge. IIRC, the final arc of electricity was 2 stories high. If I didn't have a bottle and a half of wine in me, I'd search more. :)
