I had the pleasure of meeting her around the time of the grand opening of the new Seattle Central Library. She was gracious and patient and didn't seem at all put out by the attention she was receiving. She also appeared on camera for a video the library made that looped in the auditorium during the grand opening.

Here's the Seattle Times obit. What a tragic thing to have happen.

Ah, I see she was 58. I saw that quote about her expecting to be a writer at 80 and was wondering how far she'd got.

Oh no.

She was a superb writer: intelligent, original and compassionate. I think she was at the peak of her powers too: thought the "Parable" books were her best to date. Now we'll never see the third in the trilogy.
