Maki Kawakita is a Japanese photographer living in New York. She shoots in a hyper-realist style, but her subject matter is another story. Lots of pop culture, some corporate surrealism, and even an occasional model worthy of her own post on MeFi. One or two images on her site are NSFW, and some others are just vaguelydisturbing .

Took me a minute to figure out why that vaguely disturbing shot is...disturbing. That's a child's hand.
